2009-10 PTSO Committees

Coordinate and oversee activities of PTSO; serve as liaisons of the PTSO members and committees to the Principal, to the community and to the Newton PTO Council; serve as members ex officio of all committees; involved in program planning and the preparation of the annual budget.

Receives all monies of the Organization, keeping an accurate record of receipts and expenditures; presents a statement of account at every meeting of the Organization and at other times requested by the Executive Board; assists in the preparation of the annual budget.

This Committee brings programs and/or guest speakers to various PTSO meetings centered on issues at North. The Committee is chaired by one of the Vice President(s) who meet with the PTSO Officers and the Principal to discuss possible programs for the school year.
Vice President Nikki Shearman
Serves as an assistant to the Co-Presidents, coordinates and oversees fundraising efforts and chairs the Special Projects Committee (see committee listing); attends monthly meetings with the Principal; position usually shared by two-three individuals.

Academic Standards Committee   The Academic Standards Committee meets once a month during the school day. Members include the Department Chairmen, the Principal, and two parent representatives.
Appreciation Jill Fischer This Committee assists in the organization and presentation of three events for Newton North’s 300 dedicated teachers and staff, including a "welcome back" breakfast, a luncheon, and a year-end tea.

 A Newton North tradition, parents from all grade levels sponsor this drug and alcohol-free post-prom party. Involves community members from all grade levels. An uplifting community effort.

Class Liaisons
Two Class Liaisons work with the Housemaster and the class to organize various activities related to the class.  All Liaisons represent the Welcome Committee. Their role is to facilitate communication with the class through the Housemaster, set up networking opportunities for parents. One Class Liaison should be a member of the PTSO Board.

This Board is a student/faculty-run government committee, which proposes policies to the Principal. This Committee meets weekly at 7:00 a.m. and invites two PTSO representatives to attend as non-voting members.
