GELF dinner raises funds to support student travel

Community members turned out in full force for the GELF benefit dinner on Saturday, April 1, at Newton North. The annual event, energetically planned by Samantha Mandel, global education programs manager for Newton Public Schools (NPS), raised more than $33,000 to provide scholarships for Newton North and Newton South students who want to participate in international travel programs through the schools.

Attendees enjoyed a delicious tasting menu prepared by Chef (and NNHS parent) Katya Salkever and skillfully served by NPS teachers and adminstrators, live music featuring Katani Sumner of Newton South, a personal statement from a student whose trip to Mexico was funded by a scholarship, and remarks by former principal Dr. Jennifer Price and others. Thank you to the major donors who supported this event! They are Samuel Adams, STA Travel, Newton Community Education, Village Bank, and Kuvée.
