Senior Parent Groups set for May 11, May 18, May 25--join us!

Dear families of seniors,

Now that post-graduate decisions are being made and seniors will be transitioning out of high school, the Newton North Counseling Department will facilitate a Senior Parent Group, which will provide a forum for parents/guardians to discuss various topics, including the following:

  • The Departure: Letting them go
  • Independence
  • Alcohol and drug use/abuse
  • The “Empty Nest”: What to do when they are gone?
  • Academic Expectations at college
  • Alternate post-high school plans
  • Communication
  • Emotional/physical health
  • Coming home for breaks
  • Homesickness
  • Dorm life
  • Finances

These groups are scheduled for the following three Thursdays from 9:00 to 10:20 a.m. in the International Cafe:

  • May 11
  • May 18
  • May 25

Please note that during the third session (May 25), Alison Malkin, Prevention/Intervention social worker, will be the special guest.

If you are interested in and available to attend any or all of the groups, R.s.v.p. to Donna Harper at Please know that we do realize that attending groups during the school day is challenging for many families. Unfortunately, the counselors are bound by contractual obligations to not add more evening events to their schedules. If you cannot attend any of the groups and would like to receive any handouts that may be given out during the groups, please email Donna Harper with your request.
