Vice Principal Amy Winston writes about communication, May schedules and events, and parking

1.) Do you feel like you get 2 copies of emails from me and wonder why? It could be because your child has listed your email address as their email address. I generally send emails to both students and parents. If your child has used your email address, you will get it twice and they won't get it at all. Your child can login to Skyward https://skyward.iscorp.com/scripts/wsisa.dll/WService=wsedunewtonma/seplog01.w (using their same username and password as GoogleDocs) and update their email address. This should fix the problem :)

2.) We have some unusual schedules next week The full schedule is attached HERE .

  • Note that on Tuesday (May 16) all freshmen must arrive at 7:50am for the physics final exam (don't forget a pencil and a calculator) and all sophomores must arrive at 7:50am for Math MCAS (don't forget a pencil.....calculators aren't allowed on day #1.) Everyone else must arrive by 11:35 for G Block. Busses will run twice. Once for testing students (regular time) and once for non-testing students (Newton bus routes begin at 10:55 a.m.; arrive by 11:25 a.m).
  • On Wednesday (May 17) freshmen who missed Tuesday's final exam with an excused absence will take a make-up. All sophomores must arrive at 7:50am for Math MCAS (don't forget a pencil AND a calculator today). Everyone else must arrive by 10:35 for A Block. Busses will run twice. Once for testing students (regular time) and once for non-testing students (Newton bus routes begin at 9:55 a.m.; arrive by 10:25 a.m.).
  • Sophomores enrolled in Intro Physics will take the Physics final exam at a later date. Please speak with your physics teacher.

3.) The Newton Cares Coalition is offering an upcoming evening community event "13 Reasons Why Newton Cares" for parents/guardians and other interested adults on Wednesday, May 24 6:30pm-8:30pm in the Newton City Hall War Memorial Hall.

This program will discuss the Netflix series “13 Reasons Why” and will focus on providing information to the trusted adults in our community about how to navigate these conversations with the young adults in their lives using safe messaging.  There will be a panel discussion and time for Q&A.

Please contact Linda Walsh at Newton City Hall for additional information - 617.796.1420.

4.) PLEASE remind your student that they may not park anywhere on school property during the school day.....even for 2 minutes. We have seen a dramatic increase in students ignoring the parking rules. We do tow student cars and students do face disciplinary actions. School property includes the two faculty/staff parking lots, all of Elm Road, and all of Tiger Drive. All students should now consider themselves warned.

Thanks so much,

Amy Winston NNHS Vice Principal
