Students explore identity during Asian Culture Day on February 13

Newton North's Asian Culture Club with guidance from advisor Michele Leong held its annual Asian Culture Day on February 13, 2019. Classes were invited to hear a variety of speakers in order to expand the narrative of what it can mean to be Asian American. The panels were as follows: 

  • A block: Student panel
  • B block: Chen Chen, NNHS alum, poet, author of When I Grow Up I Want to Be a List of Further Possibilities,longlisted for the 2017 National Book Awards. Chen is currently the Jacob Ziskend poet-in-residence at Brandeis University.
  • D block: Rupa Shenoy, reporter for PRI's The World
  • E block: Emily Lee, NNHS alum, photographer, polar expedition explorer, and yoga instructor
  • F block: Paige Peterson, actress
  • G block: Artist round-panel discussion with Bren Bataclan, Felix Fu, Paul Nguyen, and Eric Pow
