Outstanding Student of the Year named by Career & Technical Education Department

Three students were nominated as Outstanding Student of the Year by the Career & Technical Education Department in February. Nominees were Kamilla Salazar (Culinary Arts), Ben Gobler (Graphic Communications), and Max Roy (Drafting). Max Roy, the winner, was honored at an assembly on February 8.

Max Roy chose to try a drafting class at Newton North because he enjoyed building Minecraft. “As soon as I was in the room, I knew I was in the right program,” he said. "The drafting field trip to top Boston architectural firms allowed me to see how the software I have learned is currently used in a professional setting. The fact that this a viable career path is just icing on the cake.”

Max plans to go to college for a five-year B.S. in architecture degree. He stated, “The skills I have learned in drafting will have me ahead of the curve!”
