Board positions

Vice President, Fundraising

Work with PTSO co-presidents to oversee Newton North PTSO fundraising. Serve as point person for relevant committees (Directory & Membership, Educational Excellence, Celebration). Strong organizational, people, and technical skills needed. Attend PTSO board meetings (every six weeks during the school year). Previous PTO experience is a plus, but not required. Time commitment: September to June, 1 hour per week.

Vice President, Programming 

Work with PTSO co-presidents to determine content of five PTSO programs (meetings) per year; manage logistics. Attend PTSO board meetings (every six weeks during the school year). Time commitment: September to June, one hour every two weeks.

Recording secretary

Take notes at PTSO board meetings and publish minutes. Attend PTSO board meetings (every six weeks during the school year).

Committees

Celebration

Help oversee the post-prom party for all seniors (late May/early June). Event planning and team leading skills helpful. Time commitment: February through early June, 3 hours per week.

Class liaisons

Serve as liaison between NNHS and parents in each grade. Class of 2023—three needed; class of 2022—one needed class of  2021—one needed; class of  2020—one needed Time commitment: September to June, one hour every two weeks.

Communications

Help post stories on the PTSO website and use Mail Chimp to send emails to the NNHS community. Time commitment: September to June, one hour every two weeks.

Educational Excellence

Oversee annual PTSO check-writing campaign that raises money to meet a pressing need identified by administrators and faculty at Newton North. Time commitment: September through February, 3 hours per week.

Family Involvement

Serve as liaison between PTSO and METCO and ELL families by collaborating with program counselors. Time commitment: September to June, one hour per month.

Newton SEPAC

Serve as liaison between PTSO and Special Education Parent Advisory Council families. Time commitment: September to June, one hour per month.

Northside Dining Adventure 

Run annual parent social event (November). Time commitment: September through mid-November, one hour per week.

Safe Routes to School

Serve as liaison between PTSO and city-wide groups concerned with transportation such as Bike Newton. Show appreciation for van drivers. Time commitment: September to June, one hour per month.

Student-Faculty Administration

Attend biweekly morning meetings with students, faculty, staff, and principal in a non-voting but advisory capacity to help determine school policies.
