GELF dinner on May 4 raises $53,000 to support equity in student travel

Thanks to generous community support, the GELF (Jennifer Price Global Education Leadership Fund) dinner on May 4, 2019, raised more than $53,000 to support equity in student travel in Newton Public Schools. GELF will therefore be able to support more than 26 students with scholarships in 2019-20. This year, GELF sent more than 30 students abroad on educational NPS trips with more than $60,000 in scholarships.

GELF appreciates its many community supporters, especially Boston Beer Company, brewer of Sam Adams; Village Bank; Newton Chinese Language School; and Newton Community Education.

There is still time to support GELF by mentioning GELF when you check out from a Vino diVino! They will donate 10% of the purchase price to anyone who mentions GELF before May 18.

See the GELF Facebook page for a video of student speaker Bella Vasquez-Solis; she talked about her experience as a GELF recipient on the 2019 Greece Service trip.

There is still time to make a donation if you missed the dinner and want to support students like Bella. To get involved in GELF, email Global Education Programs Manager Samantha Mandel.
