Dear 10th grade families,
Tenth grade families are now able to renew their students’ Chromebook insurance policies. If families did not initially purchase insurance, they can do so now.
Newton Public Schools (NPS) has partnered with the Worth Ave. Group to provide optional insurance to protect the Chromebooks used by students as part of the 1:1 Initiative. Please retain this document as it provides information and the link to purchase the insurance. The deadline to purchase the insurance is July 31, 2019.
Insurance with Worth Ave. Group will protect the Chromebook against the following:
- Accidental damage (drops/spills)
- Cracked Screens
- Fire, Flood and Natural Disaster
- Liquid Submersion
- Power surge due to lightning strikes
This 3rd-party insurance policy will provide replacement cost coverage and protect the Chromebook worldwide (on and off school grounds).
The cost for the chromebook insurance coverage will be $29 for one year and $54 for two years and covers up to the $275 replacement cost. The two-year term covers the chromebook until graduation. Families who choose the one year option will be able to renew the insurance at the end of the term.
We highly recommend purchasing this insurance! The cost of repairs is quite high. For example, the cost of repairing (materials and labor) a cracked touch screen or replacing the motherboard is more than the cost of the chromebook. Families who do not purchase the insurance will be responsible for the cost of these repairs.
The most common damage we have seen so far are cracked screens requiring a payment of $275 (the cost of a new device) from uninsured users. Insurance would fully cover this cost.
NPS will not be handling any paperwork or payments. All communication must be made to the Worth Ave. Group directly. Families can purchase the insurance online at the link below.
