Guidance Aides host 8th graders on Step Up Day, Friday, June 7

Soon-to-be 9th graders from Bigelow and Day Middle Schools were treated to guided tours of Newton North by NNHS student Guidance Aides on Friday, June 7, as part of Step Up Day. The rising 9th graders got to meet their new homeroom teacher and school counselor, both of whom they will have for the next four years; went on a tour of the building; and interacted with student athletes and club leaders at an Athletics Fair in the SOA and an Activities Fair in the cafeteria.

Guidance Aides are upperclassmen who assist freshmen in homeroom as they become part of the Newton North community. Guidance Aides attend several training sessions to learn techniques for building rapport with the freshmen, helping them with their transition to high school, and creating a sense of community within the homeroom. This program provides students with an opportunity to be of service to Newton North while learning valuable skills. Students are selected via an application process in the 10th and 11th grade.

Guidance Aides are assisted by school counselor Brendan Amedio.
