Newton Child Assault Prevention (CAP) Program seeks volunteers; deadline October 20

Join the dynamic task force of trained volunteer CAP Prevention Specialists committed to teaching children in the Newton elementary schools the skills that they need to stand up for themselves if faced with verbal, physical or sexual assault. CAP is accepting applications for the 2017-2018 school year until October 20. CORI and SORI screenings are required. Nineteen continuing education credits are available for licensed MSWs. Multi-session training for volunteers begins on October 29.

Newton Community Preservation Committee public hearing to be held November 16

Early bird registration for Turkey Trot 5K ends October 26

Registration for the 4th annual Newton Turkey Trot on Saturday, November 18 (the Saturday before Thanksgiving), is open--only 1 week left for early bird registration! Prices will increase after October 26. Sign up today at to secure your spot and be guaranteed an awesome T-shirt.

Post-secondary transition being refined by Special Education Department

Some students can struggle once they reach their post-secondary options due to a variety of factors. As a department we continue to focus on supporting this transition and instilling the skills necessary for positive outcomes. This year, our staff will hear from experts from local colleges, adult agencies, workplaces, and the military. We will also be inviting students to come speak about their experiences.
