Stay informed about impact of NPS budget proposal on Newton North

The School Committee is currently discussing the Newton Public Schools budget for next year. Please stay informed.

Here are the dates for School Committee budget discussions. All meetings are at the Education Center, 100 Walnut Street, in room 210.

Monday, March 27 at 7:00 p.m.: Special meeting (i.e. no public comment)--All instructional areas, including elementary, middle, high school, student services and teaching and learning

Junior families invited to Go Higher!, April 11, 7:00-8:30 p.m., at Newton South

Junior parents and students in Newton are invited to attend Go Higher!, an event highlighting Massachusetts state universities through the eyes of current college students and alums. Learn about the new and exciting changes on campuses, top majors, and student life.
 
Join the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education's Commissioner Dr. Carlos Santiago and hear about the future of public higher education in Massachusetts.
 
Following presentations by students and the Commissioner, meet with university admissions representatives in the lobby for a college fair.

Paying the College Bill presented by MEFA on April 4, 6:30 p.m.

Seniors and their parents/families are invited to attend MEFA's "Paying the College Bill" seminar on Tuesday, April 4, from 6:30-8:30pm in the Newton North High School auditorium. Attendees will learn about how colleges make financial aid decisions, how to read award letters, and how to finance a college education. As seniors are beginning to make their decisions about which college to attend, this is a great opportunity to get any final financial aid questions answered.

Asian Culture Night set for April 8, 7:00 p.m.--join the fun!

The Asian Culture Club is hosting its annual Asian Culture Night on Saturday, April 8, 7:00 p.m., in the Newton North auditorium. In the words of Sheil Mehta, one of the club officers, "This year will be the best one yet, so we are hoping to get as many people there as possible."

The night is split into two acts filled with dances from different Asian ethnic groups, and the event showcases modern Asian- American aspects along with traditional. It will also include singers, musicians, and even a fashion show. The evening will begin and end with free Asian food for attendees to sample. Everyone is invited to enjoy a fun event that will be the culmination of a a lot of hard work.

Volunteers needed for GELF benefit dinner: Help out or donate an item!

The April 1st GELF benefit dinner needs help so GELF can continue to support low-income students participating in NPS travel abroad programs! Volunteer projects include the following:
 
  • Soliciting items for the raffle from local businesses before April 1
  • Donating artwork or other decorative items for the raffle by April 1
  • Setting up and decorating on April 1
