Newton’s own Team Believe is hosting the best pumpkin patch in town to raise funds for Best Buddies, supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Enjoy fabulous pumpkins and gourds from Wilson Farm, beautiful mums, pumpkin decorating, hot spiced cider, lollipop pull, face-painting and bake sale--join the fun!

City Council candidates gather for moderated discussion October 8, 1:30 p.m.

Newton’s four Neighborhood Area Councils — Newton Highlands, Newton Upper Falls, Newtonville and Waban — will present a moderated discussion for all at-large City Council candidates in contested races on October 8, 1:30 p.m., in the Angier Elementary School’s cafeteria/auditorium, 1697 Beacon Street, Waban. Meet the candidates who are running citywide for positions on the Newton City Council.

Farlow Park restoration project continues

At the end of August, unanticipated issues were discovered by AJ Virgilio, Newton's construction contractor for the Farlow Park restoration project. It is not uncommon during any large capital project for the vendor to run into obstacles that were not discovered during the feasibility study and initial project planning. These unforeseen issues were inaccessible during the discovery and initial project analysis as the original pond basin sat under 18 inches of loam.

Understanding Our Differences "Meet the Author" event set for November 2, 7:00 p.m.

Parents, children, and teachers, join Understanding Our Differences to welcome author Melissa Shang, disability activist and Newton South High School student, on November 2, 7:00-8:00 p.m., at Newton South High School Auditorium, 140 Brandeis Road, Newton Centre! Born with a form of muscular dystrophy, Melissa got her start in activism when she launched a petition for a disabled American Girl doll. The petition went viral nationwide and brought massive attention to the issue of disability representation in children’s toys.

Second annual Badges and Ball to be held October 13, 4:30 p.m.

Please Join Mayor Warren and Police Chief MacDonald for Newton’s second annual Badges and Ball on October 13, 4:30-6:30 p.m., at Newton Centre Playground (rain location: Mason Rice Elementary).

Participate in a fun-filled afternoon of basketball, tennis, lawn games, and enjoy performances by local teen bands and dance teams. Free refreshments! This event is designed to promote positive community engagement with law enforcement, public safety, and Newton teens!
