Historic mural returns to NNHS

After several years of work by former NNHS principal Jennifer Huntington and others, a three-part mural that originally hung in the library of the “Classical” Newton High School has been re-hung at Newton North. The side panels had been put in storage and forgotten until Jennifer Price, another former principal, discovered them in a janitor’s closet in 2010 as she was making a final sweep of the previous high school before demolition. All three panels were restored by the Hartmann Fine Art Conservation Services in Pennsylvania.

The main panel now hangs near the cafeteria, and the two side panels are on the wall outside the auditorium (see photo). Graphics students are creating interpretive plaques for the murals, and the murals will be rededicated at a ceremony in November.
