NewtonServes will officially be held on April 25th, but the schools have an option to hold theirs on May 2nd since the April date is the last day of vacation. So far, I've heard from Cabot, Zervas, Mason-Rice and Williams that they will keep the April 25th day, and from Peirce, Countryside and Bowen (tentatively) that they will use the May 2nd date. Please let me know if you school is doing a project and which date you would prefer. I will pass the info along to Mike Cronin, who needs to let the unions know as well.
As we all know, our city faces significant challenges. Roads and buildings have been neglected and require investment. Health care and pension liability is skyrocketing and costs will need to be contained. The Governor has promised level funding local aid and fully funding Chapter 70 for our schools, but the state budget won't be finalized for many months. Over the months and years ahead difficult choices will need to be made to preserve what is best about Newton while living
