The Child Assault Prevention Looking for Child Advocate

The Child Assault Prevention (CAP) program in Newton is looking for committed and dedicated child advocates to present its personal safety curriculum in local elementary schools.

Join up with current and experienced volunteer Prevention Specialists to teach children to recognize and respond to verbal, physical and sexual assault and abuse. Potential volunteers are community members who believe that children have the right to information, skills and the support of adults. We offer a flexible schedule to volunteers who enjoy teamwork and can make a yearlong commitment of three or four mornings a month.

To make it easier for people with busy schedules to train we have decided to offer 4 short morning sessions, 9 am to noon on W and F in Oct. The dates are 12, 14, 19 and 21. We are reserving the option to extend each session by an hour each day depending on the demographics of the trainees.

Your Five Minutes Could Help Get $2 Million!

Your Five Minutes Could Help Get $2 Million

A number of local nonprofits are working together to write a federal grant that could improve teens' access to fitness, health, and nutrition programs in Newton, especially those programs offered after school hours.  We want to make sure parents voices are heard.  If you have 5 minutes, please complete this brief survey for us by the end of the day on Monday May 2.

Understanding your viewpoint will not only help us plan stronger programs, but will also increase our chances for receiving a grant.

What is “Social Thinking”?
Tracey Stoll, M.Ed. Founder and Executive Director of Learning Solutions, LLC,
“Social Thinking” is our ability to think about:
WHY we do certain things?
HOW we do certain things?
WHY does all of this matter?
Tracey will speak in detail about: What social thinking is; what effects social thinking; and how we know if a student will benefit from social thinking groups and strategies? Social cognitive thinking groups are beneficial for learners experiencing social challenges among their peers, and within daily life. Participants will come away with increased knowledge and understanding of social cognitive thinking, and strategies to stimulate the development in diverse learners.
Light refreshments and networking begin at 7:15 pm.

With current national attention being focused on children’s health and wellness, Whitsons Newton PublicFood Service Department is looking forward to providing wholesome meals to all schools with a variety of options for all students. This letter provides information for parents about our convenient, easy, and secure online prepayment service to deposit money into your child’s meal account at your convenience.  The available options are electronic check or credit card.  By having money in each child’s account prior to entering the cafeteria, we find the lunch lines move much faster so your child has more time to eat their meal.
